Sub-national politics developed rapidly in 2025 with the enactment of interim arrangements in Sagaing, Magway, and Mandalay. These three regions of Central Burma established sub-national governments, pioneering federalism in Burma. The formation of these governments was welcomed by the National Unity Government ofMyanmar (NUG), as well as by civic and armed resistance movements across Burma.
