Sitrep

  • On September 11, during the meeting of the Interim Local Public Administration Implementing Central Committee, Union PM of NUG, Mann Win Khine Than, called for the best response to counter Tatmadaw’s political tricks as well as prevent Tatmadaw’s preparations, public campaigns, and propaganda dissemination regarding elections.
  • On September 11, the Nyaunglebin District and Brigade 3 of the Karen National Union (KNU) issued a letter, stating that anyone who supports the military junta’s upcoming election would be considered as giving the regime an “official license to kill.”
  • On September 9, the Union Election Commission (UEC) under Tatmadaw regime announced that they dissolved four political parties, including NDF, for failing to meet requirements under the regime’s Political Parties Registration Law.
  • Local sources also reported that millions of voters are internally displaced people. Likewise, for those residing abroad, despite Form 15 being extended for advance voting, it seems not to be of interest to the eligible voters for the upcoming elections organized by Tatmadaw.
  • Conflicts are reportedly intense between Tatmadaw and resistance forces in townships, namely, Kalay, Ye-U, and Kani, among others, resulting in thousands of civilians being forced into displacement, and an urgent need for food and other necessities.
  • Tatmadaw’s airstrikes and artillery attacks reportedly were conducted in Thabeikkyin and Wetlet townships, among others, killing civilians and damaging homes and hospitals.
  • On September 13, local sources reported that a group of young people had protested on a street in the center of Mandalay to reject the elections.
