About Us
Centre for Ah Nyar Studies is an independent, non-profit and non-partisan group based in Ah Nyar, Central Burma. Established with the aim of promoting human rights culture and supporting transitional justice, the Centre aims to address serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, including war crimes and extrajudicial killings. As a hub for research and discourse, the Centre also contributes to a deeper understanding of the region’s unique challenges and opportunities to drive progress toward justice, crisis response, post-conflict reconstruction and sustainable development.
Position Summary
Programme Assistant will support the implementation and coordination of research and programme activities at the Centre for Ah Nyar Studies, with a particular focus on political and situational analysis, governance research and conflict-related studies. The position will also provide support to the Human Rights Clinic by assisting with human rights research, documentation, programme coordination, training and fellowship activities, stakeholder engagement and reporting to advance human rights, civilian protection and transitional justice initiatives in Myanmar.
Key Responsibilities
Research Support
- Support political, governance, conflict and situational analysis conducted by the Centre for Ah Nyar Studies.
- Assist in collecting, verifying, organising and analysing qualitative and quantitative data.
- Contribute to the preparation of research reports, policy briefs, situational updates and analytical publications.
- Monitor political, governance, human rights, and conflict-related developments in Myanmar and prepare regular updates.
Human Rights Research and Documentation
- Support human rights research and documentation initiatives under the Human Rights Clinic.
- Assist in compiling, organising, and maintaining records of human rights violations and related information.
- Contribute to thematic research, case studies, and reports on human rights, civilian protection, and transitional justice.
Programme Coordination
- Support the planning, implementation and monitoring of Human Rights Clinic activities, including training programmes, fellowships, workshops and research projects.
- Coordinate communication with fellows, researchers, partners and participants.
- Assist in preparing work plans, activity reports, meeting minutes and donor reports.
Administration and Communication
- Maintain programme records, databases and documentation systems.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for meetings, events and training activities.
- Assist with drafting correspondence, translating documents and preparing presentations and communication materials as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Undergraduate diploma or degree in human rights, political sciences, law or a similar field.
- Strong knowledge in human rights and political research.
- Strong contextual knowledge of Sagaing, Magway and Mandalay.
- Basic research and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
- Intermediate level proficiency in English. Native level proficiency in Burmese.
